These terms are the agreement between you and Everlatern Academy. You accept them when you sign the register (create your student character), and again each time you enrol. We have written them in plain language on purpose. Where they say "we", "us" or "the Academy", they mean the company named below; "you" means the person holding the account.

Everlatern Academy is a fictional university where the teaching is real. It is a story-driven learning service: you enrol in an academia, invent a student character, and receive lectures written in the voice of an invented faculty.
The student you invent is a character in a story, not a record of you. Because of that:
We may rename, edit or clear any part of a plate that breaks these rules, without notice, whether the plate is public or private.
Your plate (your character's name, portrait, temperaments, description, academia, year and any handles you added) is public by default. Public means visible to the enrolled students of the Academy, that is, those who have paid for the current term, in the yearbook and wherever the Academy shows its students. It is not shown to the open internet, and not to visitors on the free opening lectures.
You can set your plate to private on your profile page at any time. A private plate is shown to nobody but you. Switching to private does not remove copies other students may already have taken, such as screenshots.
Your reading, your marks, your answers and your account details are never public, whatever your plate's setting.
Enrolling before the term begins. Enrolment opens before a term starts (for the first term, on 5 October 2026). Until that day the Academy is still being finished: some features may be incomplete, missing or not working as they will once the term is under way, and details of the schedule may change. By enrolling before the term begins you acknowledge this and accept it. In recognition of it, we offer a lower enrolment price to anyone who enrols before the term begins; the price, and the date it ends, are shown at checkout.
Withdrawal. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you normally have fourteen days to withdraw from a purchase of digital content. Because the lectures are delivered to you as soon as you enrol, we ask at checkout for your express agreement to begin delivery immediately and your acknowledgement that you lose the right of withdrawal once delivery has begun. If you did not give that agreement, or if something is wrong with what you bought, write to us within fourteen days and we will sort it out. Nothing here limits the rights you have under the consumer law of the country you live in.
Whether on a public plate, a private one, in an answer, in feedback or in a message to us, you may not post or send content that:
You also may not try to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service, scrape it, use it through automated means without our written permission, or copy, share or resell the lectures or any other content of the Academy.
We read plates and answers, and we act on reports. If we believe that content or conduct breaks these terms, we may, at our discretion and without prior notice: remove or edit the content; hide a plate; set it to private; suspend the account; or close it. For a serious or repeated breach we may close the account immediately and permanently, and no refund is due for a term cut short in that way.
Where we can, we will tell you what we did and why, at the email address on the account, and you may reply to explain. We may also refuse to open or re-open an account for anyone whose account was closed for a breach.

Everything the Academy publishes, including the lectures, the cursus papers, the faculty, their portraits and their words, the names, the crests and the design of the site, belongs to us or to those who license it to us. We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to read and use it for your own learning while you have an account. You may not copy, publish, share, sell, adapt or train machine-learning models on it, beyond short quotations with attribution and what copyright law allows without our permission.
You keep whatever rights you have in what you write here. In return for a place on the register, you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable licence to keep, display, reproduce and adapt your student character, meaning its name, portrait, temperaments, description, academia and year, within the Academy, in its yearbook and archive, and in our own publications and channels, including our website and social media. Once a character is in the Academy it is there for good, as part of the story: it stays after you close your account, marked as departed, and it is never attributed to you as a person.
Your answers, your feedback and your reading are different: they are yours, they are deleted with your account, and we use them only to run and improve the Academy. We may quote feedback anonymously.
Asking for a character to be removed. If you want your character gone, for example because you gave it a real name or a real detail after all, write to contact@everlatern.com from any address and name the character. We will remove it from the register, the yearbook, the archive and every channel we control within thirty days, without asking why. We cannot recall what has already left our hands, such as a printed yearbook or a post others have shared, and we may keep the name marked as taken.
Some email is part of the service and is sent to every account: a welcome when you sign the register, receipts and confirmations for purchases, messages about your account, and notice of changes to these terms or to the privacy policy. You cannot opt out of those while you hold an account.
Everything else is optional. The Monday letter that announces the week's lectures, term letters from the house, news about new features and requests for your feedback are sent only if you have turned them on, at matriculation or on your Account page, and you can turn each of them off there or with the link at the foot of any such email.
We aim to keep the Academy open around the clock, but it is a small service and it may be interrupted for maintenance, by our providers, or by things outside our control. Lectures are released on the schedule we announce; if a lecture is late we will say so. We may improve, change or retire features, and we may end the Academy altogether at the end of a term, with notice by email. If we end it during a paid term, we will refund the part of that term you have not had.
We provide the Academy with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, the Academy is provided as it is, without other warranties; we are not responsible for loss or damage that we could not reasonably foresee, for loss of profit or business, or for anything caused by content you or other students post. Our total liability to you for any term is limited to what you paid us for that term. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded by law, such as for death, personal injury, fraud, or intentional misconduct, or your statutory rights as a consumer.
We may change these terms, for example when the Academy gains a feature or the law changes. For a material change we will email you at least fourteen days before it takes effect, and we will update the date and version at the top of this page. If you keep using the Academy after the change takes effect, the new terms apply. If you do not agree with a change, close your account before then and, where a paid term is affected, write to us about a proportional refund.
These terms are governed by the law of Poland. If you are a consumer in another country of the European Union, you also keep the protection of any rule of your own country's law that cannot be contracted out of. Disputes may be brought before the competent courts of Poland or, where consumer law grants it, of the country where you live. If something goes wrong, please write to us first; most things can be put right in a few emails.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms, the privacy policy and the information shown at checkout are the whole agreement between you and us about the Academy.
